Florist A board

 A board

I have done some work in the past for a florist I know, usually involving slices through logs to produce stands for floral displays.

Danielle recently sent an email asking if I could make an A board with a trough type assembly at the bottom of the front face to hold a flower arrangement. the only problem was the time scale as it was required for a wedding fare.

The board was constructed using ply with a solid pine edging biscuit jointed all round to hide the raw ply edges. A couple of hinges at the top for the two halves of the board to move and a couple of chains near the bottom to limit the angle of opening and help with stability.

The next consideration was the trough for the flower arrangement.

 Trough.

The trough for the flower arrangement needed quite a bit of thought. Was it to hold fresh flowers in which case did I need to use marine ply? Did my florist friend have any set dimensions for containers which would hold the flowers? did it need to be detachable? What weight of material would be in the container and as a result how strong did the structure need to be?

Several conversations with Danielle and I had all the information. It was agreed that the trough did not need to be waterproof and would not carry a lot of weight so 12mm ply would be fine. I also decided to make it detachable for ease of storage and to facilitate making the arrangement for later attachment to the A board.

The construction was similar to the A board. Ply with a pine edging and 2 mirror plates to allow attachment and removal from the A board. I also produced a separate detachable oak board which was located on the front of the trough and could be carved with the names of bride and groom as required, to be given as a memory of the event.

Danielle had another friend add lettering and all done within a week.
