Sheep
2025 in to 2026 has not been easy. Spinal surgery and family illness has meant no workshop for a few months. Progress is being made, but it will be some time before I am fully back in action. This is a post about a further addition to the animal collection.
Some time ago, I made a kitchen towel holder where the towel formed the body of a sheep between a head and tail made in oak.
I have sold several of these, but the consensus has been that it is fine in a country house kitchen but a bit big for a standard domestic situation.
The sheep formed part of the animal collection. Started with a chicken and over time has been developed to include goose, duck, sheep and a hedgehog.
I have been thinking for some time that I needed a smaller kitchen roll holder and an addition to the menagerie.
A recent pub visit and watching Wallace and Grommit got me thinking about rabbit shapes.

Rabbit
The problem with the sheep was the length of the finished article, A kitchen roll with head and tail of a sheep in proportion gives a sizeable shape. I needed to work on a vertical form of roll holder.
Several possibilities came to mind. The table lights in the pub had rabbit ears sticking above the light shade and back legs /lower body for the base. The other idea was to have an outline of a rabbit at the front, with a central stem for the roll, perhaps with a carrot on top as a handle.
Several attempts later I came up with a simple outline rabbit shape with a white tail and a green topped carrot to make the roll stem.
The rabbit keeps the end of the roll tidy and the carrot and stick keep the centre of the roll in place. Carrot and leaves are made so the roll fits over the top without having to remove any parts.
